Last year I read Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. It’s a classic, and definitely not a modern novel. But it is a great work of psychology from an age before Freud. Whenever I have time to read, I try to read the classics or best of modern literature. I have a lot of catching up to do!

      @DavidSlater — great suggestion!

      BTW: I have a life hack for doorstop-sized classic novels that I am unlikely to read through — I listen to the audio books. During the pandemic I went through much of Tolstoy that way! There are some amazing voice actors out there that bring classic books to life. Instead of listening to music when I exercise or walk the dog, I get through a few audio book chapters.

    All: Here’s a list of some of the book recs from today’s PARC Book Club meeting — thanks to all who participated — I am going to try to read most or all of these in 2022!

    Elizabeth: Unthinkable (Jamie Raskin); Scarlet Carnation (Laila Ibrahim); Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows (Bali Kaur Jaswal); Word of Mouth (from the “Jimmy Series” — a James Patterson series for children)

    Ryan: Poverty of Nations (Wayne Grudem); Your Next 45 Moves (Patrick Bet-David); The Splenid and the Vile (Erik Larson)

    Ilene: What is Life Worth (Kenneth Feinberg); The Judges List (John Grisham); The Forest of Vanishing Stars (Kristin Harmel); Kate Quinn (The Rose Code); The Paris Apartment & The Guest List (Lucy Foley)

    Note: there is also a Netflix movie is called Worth and Michael Keaton plays Ken Feinberg, and also features Stanley Tucci and Amy Ryan

    Elliott: The Graduate (Charles Webb); Jo Nesbo (anything); Exploding Data (Michael Chertoff); A Wild Justice (Evan J. Mandery)

    Sallie: Magnolia Palace (Fiona Davis); The Warmth of Other Suns (Isabel Wilkerson); We Begin at the End (Chris Whittaker)

    Chris: The Every (Dave Eggars); The Voltage Effect (John List); Guilty pleasure beach read: Any of the many John Sandford novels with “Prey” in the title (featuring a serial killer chasing Minnesota cop named Lucas Davenport).

    Also: All readers should have the “Libby” app on their phones — it is a free app that will connect to your public library and allows you to very easily check out free e-books and audio books, plus keep a large queue of books on hold, what will become available when other readers are done with them.

    Note: There’s a Netflix series called The Circle, that is the prior book before The Every in Eggers’ series

    Thanks again All!

    One correction- the title is Word of Mouse by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein, written for middle schoolers and enjoyable and interesting for adults as well.
